Drug Statistics and Facts
The term "narcotic," derived from the Greek word for stupor, originally referred to a variety of substances that dulled the senses and relieved pain. Today, the term is used in a number of ways. Some individuals define narcotics as those substances that bind at opiate receptors (cellular membrane proteins activated by substances like heroin or morphine), while others refer to any illicit substance as a narcotic. In a legal context, narcotic refers to opium, opium derivatives, and their semi-synthetic substitutes.
The rate of past month cigarette use among 12 to 17 year olds declined from 9.8 percent in 2007 to 9.1 percent in 2008, continuing a decline since 2002 when the rate was 13.0 percent. However, past month smokeless tobacco use did not decline over this period (2.0 percent in 2002 and 2.2 percent in 2008).
Among older age groups, the prevalence of current alcohol use decreased with increasing age, from 66.4 percent among 26 to 29 year olds to 50.3 percent among 60 to 64 year olds and 39.1 percent among people aged 65 or older.
Among full-time college students aged 18 to 22, there were increases from 2007 to 2008 in the current rate of use of hallucinogens (from 1.0 to 2.1 percent). Increases were seen for the specific hallucinogens Ecstasy (from 0.5 to 1.2 percent) and LSD (from 0.3 to 0.6 percent). There were no significant changes in the rates of current use for any drugs among persons aged 18 to 22 who were not full-time college students.

and treatment centers
in Arlington Heights, Illinois?

Each drug rehab in Arlington Heights, Illinois has a different approach to the recovery process. Take note of what is important to you, and make decisions based on your personal needs. Keep in mind that in Arlington Heights there are a multitude of treatment options to choose from: outpatient treatment, in patient treatment, support groups, drug rehabilitation, alcohol rehab, drug treatment programs, sober living, halfway houses, long term treatment, short term treatment, counseling, and many more. An individual can become thoroughly confused by asking a half-dozen recovering alcoholics or drug addicts in Arlington Heights how they conquered their abuse of alcohol or drugs; the answers vary although each of them are convincing and emotional. They will cite such diverse approaches as hospitalization, diet, exercise, counseling, sauna's, religion, hypnosis, amino acids and self-help groups. When it comes to successful treatment, only one thing is certain: practically any approach will work for some of the people, some of the time. To put it another way, successful drug rehabilitation is like a designer suit- it's got to be tailor-made for each individual. A great deal of variation exists in the degree of dependence among drug users. The teenager who smokes marijuana three times a week is not as dependent as the thirty year old who has smoked marijuana six times a day for 15 years and has already relapsed after being in two drug rehabilitation centers. It's obvious that these individuals need different approaches to treatment. Similarly, among cocaine users are some who use it in binge fashion, one or two days a month, and others who use it several times each day. Again, different treatment approaches are required for each case.

For those who do not have a long history of drug addiction, an outpatient treatment program might be the correct decision. This form of treatment may be a viable solution for those who have a brief drug addiction history. These individuals might only need the guidance and counseling available though this method of treatment. On the other hand, those who have experienced an extended period of drug addiction, choosing the correct drug rehab program typically means that they should enter into an in patient drug rehab program not located in Arlington Heights. The structure, 24-hour support and change of enviornment made available through this type of drug rehab recovery program can be highly effective for those recovering from a long term drug addiction problem. Most drug rehab professionals in do not recommend any one "best" treatment approach, recognizing the many variations among drug and alcohol abusers. In general, the levels of treatment range from simple and behavioral to complex and medical. The person dependent upon drugs or alcohol may have used the chosen substance for so long that he or she has literally forgotten how to cope with the daily challenges of life; how to have a meaningful, drug-free lifestyle; or how to solve the social or psychological problems that prompted the substance abuse in the first place. In these instances, a very comprehensive approach must be prescribed if the individual is to expect any degree of successful recovery. Once stability is achieved, the "clean" or sober individual can take several steps to enhance recovery and avoid relapse. Among the general recommendations are belonging to a group as a support system, having a religious involvement, practicing good health habits; including proper diet, sleep, and exercise, as well as goal planning and self enhancement projects.

How Long is a Drug Treatment Program in Arlington Heights?

Individuals progress through Drug Rehab in Arlington Heights at various rates, so there is no way that an exact pre-determined length for drug rehab can be set .However, research has shown unequivocally that the recovery success rate is much higher in long term residential Drug Rehabilitation than in short term drug rehab. Generally, for residential or outpatient Drug Treatment in Arlington Heights, participation for less than 90 days offers a very limited amount of effectiveness, and treatment lasting longer is recommended for maintaining the most positive outcomes. The reason that a longer length of drug treatment is advisable is because it takes time to detox from drugs and reduce drug cravings. It also takes time for the addict's brain to begin to heal. A longer Drug Rehab Program in Arlington Heights, IL. also gives the addict time to be able to get to the root of why they began to use drugs in the first place. Long term Drug Rehab is optimal because it takes time for the addict to learn new behaviors and skills and to be educated in relapse prevention. In terms of how long a Drug Treatment Program in Arlington Heights should be, the addict's willingness factor is important, too. Just the fact that an addict is willing to stay in Drug Rehabilitation for an extended period of time, is a good indication as to how high their level of commitment is.

Many times in Arlington Heights, addicts and their loved ones may believe that long term Drug Treatment is expensive, but if the individual continues using drugs and alcohol it will cost everyone involved much more, and not just financially. An individual in Arlington Heights, Illinois that needs drug treatment should not talk themselves out of a long term drug rehab based on cost alone. An individual in Arlington Heights cannot compare the price of freedom from drug addiction with the one time cost of a successful Drug Rehabilitation Program.
