Drug Statistics and Facts
Alcohol is the number 1 drug problem in America.
The overall rate of current illicit drug use remained stable from 2007 to 2008 among youths aged 12 to 17, as did the rates for most specific drugs, except for hallucinogens and the nonmedical use of psychotherapeutics. An increase was seen in the rate of past month hallucinogen use, which went from 0.7 percent in 2007 to 1.0 percent in 2008, driven in part by an increase in Ecstasy use from 0.3 to 0.4 percent. However, the rate of nonmedical use of prescription psychotherapeutic drugs among youths declined from 3.3 percent in 2007 to 2.9 percent in 2008, driven largely by a decrease in the misuse of pain relievers from 2.7 to 2.3 percent.
In 2009, among persons aged 12 or older, there were an estimated 176,000 first-time past year cocaine users who initiated use prior to age 18. This estimate was significantly lower than the estimate in 2008 (239,000). Cocaine initiation among youths under 18 has declined since 2005, when an estimated 328,000 initiates were under age 18.
Youths aged 12 to 17 who had engaged in fighting or other delinquent behaviors were more likely than other youths to have used illicit drugs in the past month. For example, in 2008, past month illicit drug use was reported by 15.9 percent of youths who had gotten into a serious fight at school or work in the past year compared with 7.3 percent of those who had not engaged in fighting, and by 39.8 percent of those who had stolen or tried to steal something worth over $50 in the past year compared with 7.7 percent of those who had not engaged in such theft.

Drug Treatment With Help with Payment Programs

The growing costs of substance abuse treatment staggering. Surveys show that many individuals who need treatment for drug addiction and alcoholism aren.t getting it due to the costs involved with addiction treatment and counseling. For that reason, many never even step foot into a drug treatment center even though there are a number of options available for payment assistance. For some, it.s difficult to admit that they require financial assistance when it comes to seeking treatment for their addiction. However, many drug rehab programs even some private rehabs offer payment assistance to those who are struggling with drug addiction or alcoholism. Most drug treatment organizations will request that those seeking financial assistance or reduced payments investigate all avenues before providing payment assistance. Typically, when all other avenues have been exhausted, consideration for payment assistance will be made.
