A Crucial Stepping Stone
For people struggling with addiction, halfway (or "transitional") housing is the first crucial step after being released from inpatient treatment. It's a residence, but it also provides many of the medical, psychiatric, and educational services that drug abusers desperately need to resist temptation and keep their sobriety. These regimented dormitories are a place for them to stabilize, to commit to staying sober, and to be accountable to others. Transitional housing time limits vary, but they usually involve a temporary residence of up to 24 months, and typical rules include doing house chores, maintaining regular employment, and respecting curfew. For former addicts this kind of structured living is an absolute necessity.
